LOCAL | FLU SUSPENDS SESSION
There was a sense of excitement among the 90 percent of campers expected to return to Camp Sabra on its scheduled reopening of Tuesday, June 30. An outbreak of the H1N1 ("swine flu") virus forced the residential camp of the Jewish Community Center (JCC) to close down for a week. The 10 percent who were not returning had issues due to the timing rather than fear of the virus, said Margaret Schatz, JCC Director of Marketing and Communications. full story >

They Called Me Mayer July: Painted Memories of a Jewish Childhood Before the Holocaust is Mayer Kirshenblatt's colorful account of his life growing up in Opatow (Apt in Yiddish), Poland before he emigrated to Canada in 1934 at the age of 17. The mesmerizing collection is now on exhibit at the Jewish Museum in New York City through October 1. full story >
