Chabad on Campus–Rohr Center for Jewish Life has hired Shmuel Bergman to head JGrads, the Jewish Graduate Student Association.
JGrads tackles engagement challenges facing Jewish graduate students at St. Louis area universities, helping them acclimate on campus as well as with the Jewish community in the local area and beyond. During the course of this past semester, JGrads held or co-hosted six successful events ranging from Rosh Hashanah dinner to a happy hour with attendance ranging from 30 to 130 students. In addition, four lunch and learns held on the Washington University campus have also engaged Jewish graduate students, with dealing ranging from the recent Pew study on Jewish life to Jewish wisdom to dealing with stress.
Bergman is originally from Overland Park, Kan. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Middle Eastern history from the University of Kansas, and completed his graduate work at George Williams College in Lake Geneva, Wis. He spent the last two years as assistant director for the for the St. Louis Jewish Community Center’s Camp Sabra.
